Do magazine covers like this pressure women?

Front pages of magazines always feature thin celebrities and claims of diets that can lose so much weight in a certain number of days. Diets and 'the perfect body' is shoved into the publics eye all the time and can push people to change their view of what the perfect body size is.

An extract about how bullying and the media can lead to anorexia

Most teenage girls are very conscious of how they look. Since the media keeps on hyping that being thin is being beautiful, a lot of teenage girls are very concerned about the lingering baby fats.

Young girls’ bullying each other about their weight is very common. In many instances the girls bullying could drive their peers to desperation that they try to starve themselves to death just to become thin.
In their efforts to control their weight, many young girls all over the country suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Both of these types of eating disorders are very harmful in the short and long run.

In many extreme cases, people who have eating disorders starve themselves to death. People who have anorexia nervosa are known to go around without food for several days. These people are quite obsessive about what they eat and they are always trying to get rid of every ounce of food that they eat through excessive exercising.
According to experts, anorexia nervosa is caused by the distorted imagine that a person has over his or her body. In most cases, peer pressure such as girls bullying each other about their weight just aggravates the situation

Websites that support anorexia!!

When researching anorexia I found it disgusting how many sites there are that are supporting anorexia and also giving tips! They are more commonly known as pro-ana websites. They give tips and show pictures. These websites shouldn't be allowed on the internet, when people are suffering from this illness, these websites lead them in the wrong direction and doesn't offer any support.

Research

I will have to do a lot of research towards my awareness video as it is focusing on a very serious issue that effects many people.
I need to find out all about anorexia and bulimia.
Look into bullying and topics of bullying.
Imagery in the media that makes people feel that they should look a certain way.
Maybe visit a health hospital to interview people that have suffered from anorexia or bulimia.
I want my video to respect people that are suffering from the topic and to help people to beat it. To show they are not alone and help is out there.

Awareness Video

The last two weeks I have been thinking about how I can progress with my idea of body image. This idea has now moved into creating some kind of awareness video for people all around the world suffering from 'feeling pressured to look a certain way'.
I want to make a video that has the narrative of a girl being bullied at school for her weight and appearance, the bullying moves from the classroom to when she gets home, eventually the character starts forcing herself to be sick and stops eating. Instead of having a sad ending, the ending will focus on the girl getting help and not only beating the bullies but also beating the potential serious illness.
The positive ending will make the short film into an awareness video.

First post on ideas for my FMP

I have two ideas to choose from to research and look into for my final major project, these are;

Experimental art piece, maybe looking into day by day changes, time and life - involving video and still photography. Take day by day photos of things changing (flowers)

Pressures to change your body image in the media industry, looking at illnesses, body art/modification,  airbrushing, changes of images over history etc.
