My Light Art - Lines

When moving the camera, the different lines and shapes you can make with the light creates a great picture and would be great to layer on top of each other.

My Light Art - Drawing and Writing with Light

I attempted writing with light put found it hard to write anything longer than a few letters as it is hard to make sure the light doesn't join together and there is an issue of time before the image is captured, the time issue is also a problem when drawing with light, this will need more practice.

My Light Art - The Trainstation

The trainstation has so many different lights, that I thought it would be great to capture some light art there. The lights give a very warming feel and the colours are very rich, similar to those created by 'Sola'.

My Light Art - Objects

I decided to practice outlining objects similar to that of the work of LichtFaktor. I photographed some with a tripod and some without, on some of the photographs specifically the outline of the body, the tripod gives a smooth line which gives a better effect.

My Light Art - The Motorway

For my first attempt of light art I photographed the motorway. I tried different shutter speeds to give me an insight into the various effects that it made on the image.

How to create Light Art/Photography

I am now ready to start gathering together my light art photography. Below are the how to tutorials which will help me.

Sola

'Sola is a UK photographer whose experiments with the flow, form and movement of light are captured in two series, “Embro” and “Solid Trace”. Embro, defined by the artist as “Echoes of the organic world translated into a synthetic language”, seems to explore how light captured in a photograph can seem just as organic as anything else around us. “Solid Trace”, which the artist calls “An exploration of movement and form in contrastingly stark environments” portrays vibrant swirls of colored light on urban backdrops. For Sola the background is only a foil for works of colorful abstraction, minimal in terms of tonal range and compositional complexity. These explorations look almost like experimental photographs with aged films or accidental exposures found hidden in the bottom of a pile of old images.'

Sola creates interesting imagery with lights, and it becomes the main feature of the image. I like the warming feel that the photo brings.

Cenci Goepel and Jens Warnecke

'German duo Cenci Goepel and Jens Warnecke create stark imagery that brings a ghostly quality to the beauty of nature, turning striking natural settings into backdrops for glowing organic forms made of moving light. Their subtle use of light painting in deserts, canyons, forests and snow-covered fjords makes the illuminated forms seem to blend in with their backgrounds in a way that brings to mind alien landscapes on some far away planet.'

The pictures created by this duo are amazing, they are subtle and beautiful. The small amount of light effect they have created really blends into the scenery and you can appreciate the whole of the picture. It looks almost natural for the light art to be there. It is very simplistic.

Lichtfaktor

'The German group Lichtfaktor has produced some of the best-known light graffiti, transforming everyday objects like trash cans, phone booths and street signs into live creatures that wave their arms around and seem to spring forth from the street. Comprised of Marcel Panne, David L’pschen and Tim Fehske, Lichtfaktor combines talents like graphic design, video mixing and photography to craft series of images and videos for companies like Absolut Vodka, Audi, Sprint and Playstation.'(Quote taken from http://weburbanist.com/2008/07/07/10-amazing-light-graffiti-artists-and-photographers/)

I personally love the images produced by Lichtfaktor, I think they are original and quirky. By using the light they are able to emphasize key points of the image or portray a message through light. I would like to capture images similar to this for my video.
